Your Favourite Living Thing!

 You are going to make an eight slide presentation about your favourite living thing, exploring how you know its alive, it’s relationships to other living things and how it is adapted.

You are going to be marked on how well you understand the living thing and how well you can communicate your understanding to the reader.

Am I alive? (2 slides)

Pick two of the life functions (MRS C GREN). For each of the two life functions, describe what that function is and then describe how your chosen living thing does it. For example you could explain that reproduction is making more of the same thing, and describe how a crocodile lays eggs and protects them.

What sort of life form am I? (2 slides)

Look at two taxonomic groups that the living thing belongs to. For example a kea is a bird and a parrot while a human is a mammal and a hominid.  For each of the two groups, describe what defines that group and give three other examples of things in that group. For example you could describe how birds have light bones, wings and feathers, and give examples of penguins, eagles and weka.

How am I adapted? (4 slides)

Look at four adaptations of the living thing. You must have at least one behavioural and at least one structural adaptation. For example a cats night vision is a structural adaptation and it being most active at night is a behavioural adaptation. For each of the four adaptations, describe what the adaptation is and how that makes the living thing more able to survive and reproduce. For example you could explain that zebra in the wild  have the behavioural adaptation of living in large herds, making it easier to find mates and allowing them to protect each other from predators.
